Grin

His name is Grin.

He came to me in a dream beckoning me into the woods. This was about a month ago, I went for a hike the next day. I was planning to come home before dark but I tripped and fell down a hill. I got disoriented and forgot which way I was going, night was falling and that's when I saw him. Hiding behind a tree. He was far off into the distance but as the sky became dark and darker, he came closer and closer.

Before he got close enough, I found a path and made my way home. I couldn't see him behind me. That night I heard footsteps on the roof and looked out the window and there he was, inches from my face, unmoving. I could't tell if he had any eyes, but I knew that if I opened the window I would be gone. I named him Grin because that was all that he seemed able to do.

Night after night this happened, scuttling and pounding footsteps could be heard every night and every time I looked out the window he would be there as if he never moved at all. If I went back the bed I'd hear tapping and scratching on the window, but I would never see him do it.

One day I got a note in my room. If was from him, it only had a smeared drawing of his face and an old tape. I got the camera my granddad bought years ago that we had stowed away with all the rest of the old tapes we kept for those days we felt nostalgic. I watched the tape, and it was a video of a man walking through a Forrest disoriented running, he fell then turned around and I saw standing there was Grin, unmoving, liked he'd been standing there the whole time, then the camera started to glitch and it was over.

He wanted me to see this, it was a message, a warning, not to stay away from anything, just to tell me that there was no point fighting, I would slip up some time and he would be there. I knew then why I had a dream about him before I met him. He calls out to people through their dreams and if you are curious enough to go and look you'd be doomed just like that cat.

I tried to upload the video but something wouldn't let me, it was like the tape couldn't play for anything else but my granddads recorder. So I took a picture of the final moment, to warn you all... Don't go into those woods.
